Since 2003, Stephen has helped establish, build and lead investigative teams in Orlando, Miami and San Francisco’s TV markets.

Using his video, digital and social media skills, he serves as Senior Investigative Reporter, one of the founding journalists of a 17-member Investigative Unit at NBC Bay Area. #WeInvestigate is one of the largest investigative reporting teams in the country.

Stephen also travels around the country teaching computer-assisted reporting and breaking news seminars at IRE conferences, universities and TV, newspapers and multimedia outlets.

Stephen’s skills and expertise extend beyond traditional television storytelling, expanding his reach with digital and social media platforms. His rolling investigation into California's High Speed Rail includes extra content designed only for the web, social media and hand-held devices.

His deep dive into California’s Water Crisis took him to Israel where his team created not only a series of TV stories but extra web content and interactive information to lead viewers to better understand the issues.

Stephen led his team on similar digital projects:

Oil money in California politics

Crumbling bridges

Aging water pipes

Fracking pollution

Gun violence

Stephen's work has prompted Congressional hearings and changed state law in both Florida and California.
