Experience

Journalist, teacher and mentor Stephen Stock has spent his career leading newsrooms to give voice to the voiceless while guiding young journalists in the importance of holding the powerful accountable.

Stephen served as National Investigative Correspondent for CBS News and Stations, part of the ground-breaking Innovation Lab at CBS, based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

The venture fit perfectly as part of Stephen’s DNA as he uses his data, video, digital and storytelling skills to build powerful investigative teams all over the country. Since 2003, Stephen helped establish, build and lead investigative teams in Orlando, Miami and San Francisco’s TV markets.

Stephen travels around the country teaching computer-assisted reporting and breaking news seminars at national conferences, universities and TV, newspapers and multimedia outlets.

Investigative Reporters and Editors, National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists rely on Stephen to teach at their national conferences each year.

He has also served as guest lecturer at Stanford University, University of Florida, University of Miami, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Auburn University and University of Houston.

Stephen’s skills and expertise extend beyond traditional television storytelling, expanding his reach with digital and social media platforms.Recent examples include police agencies selling used service weapons, and tax dollars spent to replenish beaches.

His rolling investigation into California's High Speed Rail includes extra content designed only for the web, social media and hand-held devices.

His deep dive into California’s Water Crisis took him to Israel where his team created not only a series of TV stories but extra web content and interactive information to lead viewers to better understand the issues.

Stephen led his teams on similar digital projects using both data analysis and AI:

• Crumbling schools

Safeguarding schools

Police sell used service weapons

Declining vaccination rates

Fracking pollution
